Many remember the first time they develop a taste for something, but for Heath Keating, dancing has always been in his blood.

“Honestly I don’t remember why I wanted to start dancing,” he tells AXN. “All I know is that whilst growing up in the small town of Mullumbimby, my Dad took me to my first tap class at the age of seven and I haven’t stopped since.”

Indeed he hasn’t. The 23-year-old is currently of the most profilic dancers in Sydney’s gay scene, having appeared in numerous productions at various hotspots on Oxford Street. Most recently, he starred in the long-running show, Muscle Mansion, at the Midnight Shift with Kitty Glitter and famed choreographer, Michael Boyd.

“Being a dancer in Sydney is not always the easiest thing as the range of work can be limited and inconsistent,” Heath says. “However, being able to entertain such a diverse and ever-changing mix of people is the best part about it – seeing people enjoy what we do is the most rewarding part.”

Heath says that to succeed in the industry, one needs to be determined, passionate and have plenty of chutzpah. “To be a successful dancer or performer of any sort, you need to be tough and extremely passionate as this industry is too demanding to be half-hearted,” he says. “It’ the only thing that I rely on to keep me fulfilled and no matter what I always come back to dancing. It’s in the blood.” AXN
